12/12/12 update: Through 12/17, buy 2 Vega Sport Performance Protein, get 1 free!
Today’s post is brought to you by inspiration via RunWiki’s Nuun Lemon Lime Christmas Punch recipe and the colors red and green.
I ran 4 miles today. Anyone who’s been following my sad tale of injury woe knows that this is a BIG DEAL. So big that I decided to celebrate with a special recovery drink. Yes, it’s the little things…
I ALWAYS drink Vega Sport Performance Protein after a run. I nearly always make a smoothie with frozen fruit and whatever else looks good. My smoothies are often green or brown. They don’t always look appealing but taste great and are full of vitamins, anti-inflammatories from the Cheribundi tart cherry juice and pineapple, and, thanks to the Vega, the requisite carb: protein ratio for recovery from exercise.
But I figured if I was going to actually post pictures of my smoothie it had better look appetizing or no-one was gonna make it. I honestly didn’t know if it was going to turn out green or red. The result even surprised me.
Ingredients:
16oz. (2 bottles) Cheribundi Ginger Cherry Juice
2 handfuls frozen raspberries
2 handfuls frozen pineapple
2 handfuls baby spinach
1 scoop Vega Sport Performance Protein berry flavor
Optional: 1 handful cranberries (these were an afterthought; saw them in the fridge – yes, Thanksgiving leftovers – and thought they’d be a great addition)
How To Make it:
Place everything in the blender. I recommend Cheribundi first, then frozen items, then spinach and Vega. Blend and enjoy!
Notes on products I used:
I have a Blendtec blender that can handle anything; I throw in the ingredients, press the smoothie button, walk away (it’s loud!) and come back a minute later to a great smoothie. My old blender could not handle smoothie ingredients and I was constantly stopping it to stir it up. Through 12/19/12 Costco has a great Blendtec deal. Yes, it’s pricey, and I balked at the price when I bought mine a little over a year ago, but I’ve never regretted it.
Vega has a lot of different products. If you’re interested in trying them, they have a variety of bundles available. The selection can be overwhelming so the bundles are great for trying different things. They’re also doing a 12 days of Vega Giving special right now. Follow VegaTeam on twitter.
Cheribundi makes a range of tart cherry juice drinks. Tart cherry juice is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant with enormous health benefits. Plus it tastes damn good. Follow Cheribundi on twitter.
